Big Federal Cosmetic Policy Reform Enacted

The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulations Act of 2022, though imperfect, makes many constructive and long-overdue cosmetic safety measures to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act, which had not been significantly amended since it was enacted over 80 years ago.

Groups petition FDA to restrict Bisphenol A in food packaging

January 27, 2022 WASHINGTON, D.C.—A coalition of physicians, scientists, and public health and environmental organizations today sent a formal petition to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), calling on the agency to rescind its approvals for bisphenol A (BPA) in adhesives and coatings and set strict limits on its use in plastics that contact food.

Newsom Signs Bill Eliminating PFAS in Clothes into Law

SACRAMENTO—In a win for current and future public health in California, Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law AB 1817, the Safer Clothes and Textiles Act, which will curb the flow of toxic PFAS chemicals into Californians’ clothes, bodies, and environments.  AB 1817 eliminates unnecessary uses of PFAS in clothes and textiles, which can lead to pollution at each stage of production, use, laundering, and disposal, making California the first state to limit PFAS in clothing and textiles.

FDA Allows Hormone-Disrupting Phthalates in Food Packaging
