Tell 99 Cents Only to Protect its Customers

Action by our partners at the Campaign for Healthier Solutions, a project of Coming Clean

Farmworkers and environmental justice communities are disproportionately exposed to harmful chemicals found in pesticides, dollar store products, and toxic air emissions from chemical facilities, which can have devastating health consequences, including an increased risk of breast cancer.

99 Cents Only has no policy to restrict chemicals of concern, including glyphosate, bisphenol A and S, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and phthalates, which are linked to breast cancer, learning disabilities, and endocrine disruption. As other dollar stores have made progress to phase out harmful chemicals from their products after facing pressure from consumers, 99 Cents Only Stores have earned an F on every Retailer Report Card since 2017.

Take Action: Tell 99 Cents Only leadership to demand that they:

  1. Commit to phasing out toxic chemicals to protect our health and reduce breast cancer risk
  2. Meet regularly with the Campaign for Healthier Solutions
  3. Join the Chemical Footprint Project as a signatory and responder
