As part of a proposed restructuring of FDA’s offices related to food safety, the FDA announced the appointment of Jim Jones as the first-ever Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods on August 23, 2023.

BCPP is very pleased that the FDA has selected Mr. Jones for this new role, particularly given his strong background in chemical safety from his time as assistant administrator of the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.

BCPP congratulates Mr. Jones on his appointment, and we look forward to working with him to address the long-standing problems regarding the use of toxic chemicals in materials that contact food during processing and packaging. Over 10,000 chemicals are used in U.S. food processing and packaging, including many chemicals of concern, such as phthalates, BPA (bisphenol A), and PFAS, for which science shows links to breast cancer and other chronic and lethal diseases.
